8 Ways to Get a Girlfriend That Actually Work

The Higher Bond Team
The fact that there is 50% more search volume for how to get a girlfriend than there is for how to get a boyfriend should give you some comfort that you’re not alone in your search. That said, comfort still doesn’t get you a girlfriend!
Today, we’re going to look at some of the best ways you can go about getting a girlfriend that actually work. We’ll share some ideas you may have already thought of (but with new tips), and we’ll share a few unique options that you maybe haven’t tried yet.
While none of these ways to get a gf can guarantee you success, they can help you increase your odds of connecting with someone who just might turn into that special girl in your life.

1. Take an honest audit of who is around you.
The number of times we’ve heard stories of someone searching high and low for a girlfriend only to find the perfect person was under their nose all along is pretty high. So, before you go out on a search in all of these new places, step back and take an audit of all the girls in your life.
The key to this exercise is making sure you actually look at every girl, not just the ones that are on your mind as an option. By stripping away the restrictions or blockers your mind may have placed on someone, you may see someone you already know in a new light.
Is this going to work for everyone? Absolutely not. In fact, it probably will work for fewer of you than those it won’t work for. But! If you happen to fall into that camp where it does work, it will save you so much time and effort, and could lead to you finding a girlfriend super quickly.
The key, though, is you have to be open in your audit and don’t discount someone without really thinking it through.
2. Use a quality dating app focused on serious relationships.
Love them or hate them, dating apps absolutely work at helping people get girlfriends and find happy relationships. They are the single quickest way to expand your horizons and meet women that you would have never come across otherwise.
Here’s the two keys, though. One, you have to use a dating app that is quality and focused on serious relationships. Anything that even entertains the idea of casual dating might help you find dates, but it’s probably not going to lead you toward a committed relationship and a new girlfriend anytime soon.
Two, you have to put in some effort. Write a great profile, upload great photos, send a lot of messages, and respond to people who reach out to you. Online dating is one of those things that you tend to get out of it what you put in.
If you happen to be a Christian single, we’d encourage you to check out Higher Bond. It’s free to join, and offers a safe and welcoming environment purely focused on serious and committed relationships.

Real Christian Dating.
If your faith is not important to you, there are other options out there that can help you in your search for something serious.
3. Activate your friends and family network as matchmakers.
While a lot of data sets show online dating as the number one way people are meeting, through friends and family is still a strong second (or first in some data sets).
So, how do you get your friends and family to set you up with that great girl they know? You ask them to!
Seriously, unless you’ve actually told your friends and family that you’re single and open to introductions, most of them aren’t going to even think about it. If you’re just assuming they already know or you “kinda’ hinted at it”, that’s not going to get things going.
4. Consider joining a singles group.
One of the best ways to get out there and meet more people is to get out there and meet more people! And when your goal is to get a gf, the best way to take that advice to the next level is to get out there and meet more single women!
All kidding aside, most cities have huge singles groups that you can connect with and start meeting people. Sometimes these are just based on location and sometimes they’re based on some sort of distinguishing characteristic (age, faith, occupation, interests, etc.).
Here are a few of the biggest we’ve seen!
- Discovering Houston – 41,726 members
- Good Eats & Meets-Charlotte – 28,595 members
- The New York City Social Group – 26,807 members
- Social Singles in their 20s and 30s! (Houston) – 22,281 members
- Orlando Area Christian Singles – 5,365 members
5. Start a new hobby or revive an old one.
You’ll notice a theme amongst almost all of our ways to get a girlfriend and that is getting out and meeting more people. One way to do this is to start a new hobby or get active in one you used to do!
Hobbies come with new groups, fun events, and new places where you can meet people. For example, let’s say you love running (we can see some of you rolling your eyes). If you do, you can join running clubs, go to 5k or 10k events, etc.
Find a hobby that you enjoy, and that also has a good following of people who interact. For example, something like scuba diving might be cool, but it’s really hard to meet people when you’re under the water and can’t talk to each other.
6. Volunteer!
Honestly, behind online dating and talking to friends and family, this should probably be the next place that you start if you’re looking to get a girlfriend. Volunteering is not only a great way to support your community and give back, but it’s also a great way to make friends and meet someone who might turn into something special.
And the best part about volunteering? It’s free! And even if you don’t meet anyone, you will absolutely make some new friends and do some great for your community.
7. Take group fitness classes.
Group fitness classes (co-ed, of course) are an incredible way to get a girlfriend, or at least meet women you might be interested in. Now, there are some tips you have to take into account when using this method:
- Don’t become the creeper that is just there looking to meet women. It will be sniffed out fast, and you won’t have any luck.
- Show up early and leave late! The best time for conversation is not during class, but before and after.
- Take it slow! Most women are regulars to workout classes, so there’s no reason to rush anything. Get to know people first, become friends, and then decide if it’s something you might want to pursue.
8. Open your eyes 🙂
Our last answer on how to get a girlfriend is simply to open your eyes when you’re out and about. There are great women at the grocery store, at the post office, at school, at work, at church…literally anywhere you go.
When you’re out, be ready to strike up a conversation. You never know who you might randomly meet or run into when you’re out and about.
Too often, though, people are so focused on what they’re doing that they forget there’s a whole world happening around them.
Don’t let this be you. Be aware of what’s going on around you. And if you see someone, have the courage to say hi! Just be aware that some women may fall into that camp of focused on what they’re doing, so you may get a few cold shoulders (which is totally fine and has nothing to do with you).
Some really important tips on how to get a girlfriend
Looking in the right places is step one. However, there are some nuances you need to think about when it comes to this process. Here are those tips:
- Take your time. – While you may feel like you need to get a gf like yesterday, the reality is that this is someone who will play a big role in your life. Take your time and focus on finding the right one.
- Don’t make this your only goal. – If you go into all of these places we suggested with the sole goal of getting a girlfriend, you’re going to come across as weird and probably creepy. Let finding a girlfriend be a secondary goal, and focus on growing yourself, having fun, and giving back.
- Be open to the possibilities. – It’s possible that one of the reasons you haven’t had success in getting a girlfriend is that you may be blocking out some women or opportunities without a good reason. If someone tries to set you up, give it a shot. If you think someone might be a possibility, give it a shot. Making sure you aren’t your worst enemy in this is a very important step.
