Shining among the crowd like a star sounds amazing, right? Well, today, we want to talk about how the scriptures say to make that happen, and how it can help your dating life. Let’s get into it!
“Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation. Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky as you hold firmly to the word of life.” – Philippians 2:14-16
If you hadn’t read this scripture before, were you expecting that the secret to shining among them like the stars was not to grumble or argue? Probably not (and that’s okay)! Regardless, this guidance is extremely important in our lives as a whole and can plan an impactful role in our dating lives.
Sometimes the road to finding a spouse can be a long one filled with many hills and valleys. Often, it’s better described as a marathon than a sprint. The challenge here becomes staying positive throughout the process as the temptation to become jaded rears its head. And when you get jaded, two things happen—you begin to move away from trusting in the Lord, and your attitude may change toward the process.
Even worse, if you start approaching the dating process with a grumbling and jaded attitude and the right person does come along, you might push them away. We see this in a lot of forms. We see people who post all their gripes with the dating process on their profile. We hear about people getting messages that are far from uplifting and that don’t demonstrate a trust in the Lord. We see people who care less about putting their best foot forward and more about complaining, griping, and arguing about things that don’t matter in the long run.
If you’re struggling with this, we have a few words of guidance. First, consider taking a break from dating. You may need a short (or long) season of rest to recharge. Second, pray. Go to the Lord with your concerns. Third, work to rebuild your trust that God has your best interests at heart. There is a big difference between saying you trust the Lord and living that out.
