Anytime you do something new or something unfamiliar or something that involves a lot of emotions—it can make you anxious. And thankfully for a lot of us, dating is all three! Okay, so maybe that’s not that exciting to hear, but it’s the truth.

Before we go any further, we want to make sure this point it clear. Anxiousness and even fear are completely normal emotions to have when it comes to dating. But thankfully (genuinely this time), we’re not just going to leave it there.

Today, we’re going to look at how God tells us to approach our anxieties and what this might look like in the context of being single and dating.

Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” – 1 Peter 5:7

Often a favorite verse for a lot of people (including the writer of this), 1 Peter 5:7 tells us exactly what to do with our anxiety or our ‘cares’ in other translations. It tells us to cast them on God for He cares for us. What an amazing and powerful message. God loves us so much that he tells us we can bring our anxieties, our cares, and our worries to him—no matter how trivial or small they may seem to us.

What’s even better, though, is that God is not just a sounding board. So many times throughout the scriptures He talks about how He’ll answer those prayers. A few verses later in 1 Peter 5:10 it says, “10 And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.”

When we’re single, the world tells us there are a lot of things to be anxious about. What if we never find anyone? What if we mess up a first date? What if we get hurt? What if people look down on us for being single? And while we completely understand these feelings, they aren’t feelings we have to continue living with.

As it says in 1 Peter, take these worries, anxieties, and cares to the Lord. Ask him to make you strong, firm, and steadfast. Ask for wisdom, patience, courage, and peace to get through the tougher times.

In the end, we have nothing to be anxious about because God knows the plans he has for us! But we’re all human, so these feelings can and will creep in from time to time. Thankfully, we have such a straightforward blueprint to deal with them head on, and we don’t have to do it alone.
