A lot of things are easier said than done. When things aren’t going the way you want them to in your search for love, worry is one of the first emotions knocking at the door. Maybe it’s taking longer than you want? You’ve had a bunch of bad dates? You seem to have exhausted all the options in your area? It’s easy to start worrying about whether you will ever find anyone.

Today, we’d like to look at worry and offer some words of encouragement and guidance from scripture.

Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life.” – Luke 12:25

In the Gospel of Luke, we’re told not to worry. It’s pretty cut and dry. And while we can all agree that’s sound advice, we’re all also thankful that’s not where the scripture stops. In the following verses (we encourage you to read all of Luke 12), it goes on to talk about how God will provide for us. It shares how God knows what we need and provides abundantly for us.

If we truly believe the scriptures to be true (which we hope you do), then that means worrying about our love life is down-right silly! If we trust that God will provide as he says, then who are we to think we know better?

Here’s the encouragement. Lean into God. Lean into the promises that He has made for us. The more you do that, the quicker the worry will go away. Be mindful that God provides and answers prayers, but sometimes it’s not in the way we expect or want or in the timeframe that we expect or want.

One of the best strategies you can try here is to memorize some scripture or a phrase that you can say to yourself when the worry starts to creep in. Something like “God knows the plans he has for me” or Philippians 4:19, “19 And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.”

We’re human, so worry is bound to happen. But if we can develop some strategies to attack the worry the second it starts and before it gets bigger and harder to tame, we can get through it. And thankfully, with the help of God and the Holy Spirit, all things are possible.

  1. What role does worry play in your single life?
  2. Are there strategies you can put in place to help fight off the worry when it starts?
  3. Are there indicators you can train yourself to look for to know when worry is starting to creep in?
