Today, we want to talk about the interesting relationship between blessing and suffering. Let’s get into it!
“But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. “Do not fear their threats; do not be frightened.” – 1 Peter 3:14
When we think about it, the entire basis of Christianity is built on the relationship between blessing and suffering. As a result of Jesus Christ’s suffering, we’re able to enjoy the blessing of salvation and a chance to spend eternity with the Father. Hallelujah!
In today’s world, when we stand up for what we believe, we’re not promised an easy road. Often, this can be in the form of ridicule, harassment, and whatever other ways those who don’t agree with us choose to show their disdain. In our dating lives, this might mean people refusing to date us, people breaking up with us, or even people badmouthing us to other potential mates.
Luckily, the guidance we’re given in 1 Peter tells us that even if we should suffer, we are blessed. The Lord finds favor in us.
And what’s great is that someone who is an ideal partner for us will enjoy seeing us stand up for what we believe. They won’t enjoy seeing us suffer, but they will find our ability to stand strong in the face of adversity as an attractive quality. If someone doesn’t want to date you because they don’t like what you believe in, they’re not the right person for you anyway.
While we hope that you endure no suffering, our prayer is that you understand that standing up for what you believe in Christ is worth more than the earthly suffering it may bring.
📝 Here’s Some Reflection Questions:
- Are there things you’ve stood up for before that brought suffering?
- Are there things you should have stood up for in your dating life that you didn’t?
- What changes can you make to ensure that you’re living for Christ regardless of how the world views it?
